Do you want to know what makes you happy or unhappy in your work and career? Explore your work values and determine which ones are truly important to you.

This will help you find what truly resonates with you. It will also help you better demonstrate your enthusiasm for certain topics, for example, when you're talking to an employer. And enthusiasm is contagious.

You can take a work values test on Career Zone. It examines 14 work values that can be considered fundamental. When you have a job that adequately reflects the work values you consider important, you're more likely to be successful and happy in your work.

The work values being tested are:

  • Altruism
  • Variety
  • Autonomy
  • Self-development
  • Work-life balance
  • Relationships at work
  • Creativity
  • Assurance
  • Financial reward
  • Prestige
  • Working Conditions
  • Performance
  • Structure
  • Influence
  • Take the Work Values Test
  • At the end of the test, you will be asked to enter some information. You can skip this if you prefer not to. You will still receive the test results.
  • Read the report carefully so that you know how to interpret the results.
  • Save your test results (PDF) in your Career Planning folder for easy access.

  • Record the results (high and low scoring values) in your Career Planning work document.
  • Review your results: Are they recognizable? What stands out?
  • What would you like to see of these values reflected in the work you want to do? What would you like to see of these values reflected in the organisation where you want to work? What kind of corporate culture would be a good fit, for example?
