Career Planning module setup

In this section you will find more information on the set-up of the Career Planning module.

Work method
On the LU Career Zone you will find extensive information on the job search process, your preparation for the labour market and everything that comes with it. In the Career Planning module, the different steps are briefly described, each time referring to the more extensive information elsewhere on the Career Zone. In this way, you will also get a good idea of what the Career Zone has to offer. With every step, various accompanying assignments are offered.

The module starts with the part 'About Career Planning' in which you will get an explanation of the career orientation process and the Career Planning roadmap. Also, some topics such as 'study career planning' and 'employability' are explained.
Hereafter, the four steps are explained:

  • Step 1. Know yourself (personal profile)
  • Step 2. Explore the labour market ((career) profile)
  • Step 3. Develop your (application) skills
  • Step 4. Find a job (vacancy).

Complete independently or as part of a training programme
This roadmap has been set up in such a way that you can go through it independently, but it can also form part of a tutorate or study component in your study programme. In that case, your tutor will instruct you to follow this roadmap for a period of time and to make assignments that will subsequently be worked out in more detail with fellow students in a group.

Complete roadmap or follow separate parts
The roadmap has a logical sequence, but depending on where you are in the career orientation process, you can also follow one or more steps/sections. You can be flexible with this roadmap.
Some assignments will refer to assignments in earlier steps however. You may then choose to make these assignments at a later stage.
We recommend that you read the outline of the module and the section About Career Planning anyhow, so that you have a good overview of the module and the subject.

Take your time
Take enough time to go through the Career Planning roadmap. You are in a process and it takes time to go through it properly. Some parts require actions that you cannot perform a minute later. It is also good to let certain findings sink in. Perhaps you will gain other insights.

Save findings
For each step, you will find explanation, information on the subject and corresponding assignments. These assignments can be worked out in (a) Career Planning - working document(s) and saved in a Career Planning portfolio folder.

  • Career Planning - working document
In the Career Planning - working document you can write down the most important findings from the assignments in the roadmap. Save this document and complete it during the roadmap. Occasionally, you may look back at the document to see what you have described before and whether you have any adjustments or additions to make.
You will find here the working document for the complete roadmap, but also separate working documents for the different steps. Use whichever you prefer:
  • Career Planning - portfolio
We advise you to save all your documents from the career planning step-by-step plan in a (career planning) folder on your pc, to keep everything together.
    It concerns documents like:
    • Career planning - working document(s)
    • Test reports
    • Other documents such as CV, application letters, network plan.
