Step 1. Know yourself (Personal profile)
The first step in the career orientation process is to gain insight into yourself, so you know who you are as an individual and to determine which factors are important to you.
This process is called self-analysis or self-assessment and forms the basis for making (good) choices and decisions in your life. The findings of this self-analysis together form your Personal Profile. Everyone has their own unique profile, and it's important to discover this for yourself.
If you know who you are, what you can do, and what you want (characteristics, competencies, interests, and values, for example), you can better determine what suits you and this helps you find direction and make decisions.
In Know Yourself you'll delve into various aspects of yourself. Using various tests and an assignment, you'll examine yourself. The tests will help you gain insight into yourself. Consider the results as indicative rather than definitive. They are also snapshots, so the results aren't fixed. Use them primarily to reflect on yourself. The worksheet you complete at the end of this step provides a good overview of this step.
This isn't the only step in the step-by-step plan where you'll delve deeper into yourself. You'll also learn more about yourself through the other steps in this module.
We invite you to take the tests related to the following topics:
Once you've completed the tests, record your key findings in an overview in your work document. This is your Personal Profile.
Be sure to complete this profile if you gain new insights about yourself in other ways.
